Why is my lizard doing this?

My friend just gave me his Mali Uromastyx and I picked it up to water it and it flattened it's body out so I went to set it on the counter and it jumped off my hand and arched it back up and was walking sideways and then jumped off the counter and started sucking in really hard and exhaling really loud and now It's behing the toilet and when I go near it it backs away and arches it's tail. and it's like backing into the corner, i dont know what to do, it's a mali uromastyx..
